West Island Chorus of Sweet Adelines International presently numbers over forty women who come from the Greater Montreal area and beyond. We offer a great opportunity to make new friends, have fun and learn to sing four-part harmony in the barbershop style. You do not have to know how to read music - audio learning CDs are made available. We enjoy introducing ourselves to our community and singing songs in a package we've designed especially for the event, complete with colorful costuming. Not only are our shows primary fund raisers, but also major catalysts for friendships formed as we work together. Watch for news of our shows in our “Upcoming Events” section below. Each year West Island Chorus prepares and travels to compete at the Annual Quartet & Chorus Competition of North Atlantic Region 1, Sweet Adelines International. The competition takes place at Symphony Hall in Springfield, Massachusetts. Part of this tradition includes a Dress Rehearsal to which friends, family and members of the public are invited. Throughout the year the chorus brings in coaches from International and Regional faculty who have expertise in sound, vocal production and choreography to help hone our skills and prepare us for competition. The Chorus also encourages its members to take advantage of the many educational workshops in every aspect of barbershop harmony provided at Fall and Winter Regional weekends. Mission Statement - The West Island Chorus is dedicated to the promotion of women's barbershop harmony through education and quality performance. Together its members aspire to achieve musical excellence while creating a spirit of unity, enthusiasm and fun, in which each individual can realize her greatest potential within the organization.
